ITNAmerica promotes lifelong mobility for older adults and people with special mobility needs. Founded in Portland, Maine, in 1995, ITNAmerica is the first and only national non-profit transportation network created to support sustainable, community-based transportation grounded in research, policy analysis and education. ITNAmerica’s national network of almost 100 nonprofit transportation providers has delivered more than 1.5 million rides, helping older adults and people with special mobility needs live in healthier, stronger, connected communities.
America’s Volunteer Driver Center (AVDC) will change the way Americans think about and support nonprofit community-based transportation for older adults and people with mobility challenges, especially in rural and suburban communities. AVDC will be to volunteer driver recruitment what the Red Cross is to volunteer blood donation—mobilizing a national effort for a national need. With a $1 million Congressionally Directed Spending grant, ITNAmerica will build a national coalition, with participation from industry and philanthropy, for a national public awareness campaign to recruit and train volunteer drivers.
